I agree with a pro-choice journalist

Well….at least I agree with her on one thing. Sally Jenkins writes about the NOW’s opposition to CBS’s super bowl ad with Tim Tebow.

Sally Writes, “If the pro-choice stance is so precarious that a story about someone who chose to carry a risky pregnancy to term undermines it, then CBS is not the problem.”

You can read the whole piece here.

Been a long time

Wow, it's been a while since I posted. So, here's an update...

I am the children's minister at www.lmbc.us. I am so loving Lost Mountain Baptist Church. Allison and I have truly found a church home.

I actually got to preach my first Sunday morning service (you can listen here if you'd like) and it was an awesome experience. I am thankful for this opportunity and hope to have more like it.

I absolutley love working with the families of LMBC. They are great! We also have a new kids web page (www.lmbckidz.us).

Above all, we really feel like God is using us for His glory and we couldn't be happier.

I hope to get on a fairly consistent schedule of bloggin, so check back often!

Compassion International

So, Allison and I are sponsoring our first Compassion child. He’s a little boy from Bolivia. We received his information yesterday in the mail. Compassion International answers all the questions right up front on legitimacy. I would urge you to pray about sponsoring a child for only $38 a month. Check out their website and look at all the children in need of help. $38 is really not a sacrifice for any of us.

I really have felt compelled to sponsor a child for some time now and unfortunately I was afraid of my donation not being used well by the organization of my choice (our church had a small issue with another organization that caused me to worry). But, this year I went to Catalyst and witnessed this below. Jimmy Wambua was sponsored for 19 years by a guy named Mark. Watch the video to witness how much of an impact this had on Jimmy’s life.

I hope my new friend in Bolivia is impacted as much through our obedience to God's leading in our lives as Jimmy was from Mark's obedience to God's leading in his.

Catalyst 2009

So, I went to the Catalyst Conference.  It was awesome.  I have never been before but hope to go again because it was so amazing.  While there I learned a lot and also was challenged a lot.  Allison and I are now sponsoring a Compassion child.

Someone asked me, knowing that I am a children’s minister. “So what does a children’s minister get out of Catalyst.”  I wasn’t offended or anything but as I thought more about it, I realized that a conference on leadership pertains to a children’s minister just as much as anyone else.  God has given me the task of discipling kids who will be leaders in just a few years really.  If you look at it closely, I’m tasked with developing future youth group leaders and future Pastors even.

My favorites form the conference were, in order, Andy Stanley, Pricilla Shirer, Chuck Swindoll, Matt Chandler, and Louie Giglio.

For more detailed lessons from Catalyst, visit my friend Greg’s blog.
