"I was a cancer, You have made me a son." -Downhere
Ever have those days when you recall every sin you have ever committed? Or at least 2/3 of those sins. I had a morning like that today. I recalled every wrong thing I have been guilty of and was just down in the dumps. I felt like saying, "Why do I even try to pretend? ", or "how can I teach and preach and expect anyone to truly listen." There is a new song by Shane and Shane called Embracing Accusations where Shane B. recalls an event where he felt like Satan was rightly accusing him of failing to "abide" in Christ (Galatians 3:10-14). But he then recalled verse 13 that says, "Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, 'Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree'". What a glorious truth, as Christ's child I am redeemed by Christ, He became a curse for me. I like the way Downhere put it (above). The truth is, I was really bad off, a cancer, a sinner, wretched in God's sight and to men. I was without hope. But-praise God for that conjunction-because I have believed on the truth of God's grace through the provision of Jesus Christ, the righteous who took on a curse for us, I am not only forgiven but counted His heir, a child of His, His son.
That goes against a gospel that quite a few people preach. I need to be aware of how lost I would be without Christ and how wretched my sin is in His eyes. Thanks be to God who made Christ to become sin that I might be free. Never forget.
