As someone who has been the recepient of some good appreciation and as one who hasn't received appreciation quite as well either, I feel the great need to comment on a church sign i've been seeing for the past month.
As you may know, October is Pastor Appreciation month. There is a little church whose sign reads, "God knows we love our Pastor." I think the intention was well meant and i'm sure the church appreciates their Pastor. Yes, and God knows all, so he knows the truth of the hearts of that Pastor's congregation. Here's the question I ask myself every time I see the sign, "Does the Pastor know?"
In other words, does the congregation actually show appreciation for their Pastor? It becomes easy, as in any relationship for one party or the other to feel that by expressing care and appreciation every so often, the recipient should know. Appreciation is something that can be shown any time and hopefully more frequent than one month out of the year. And it doesn't have to be ellaborate. A simple email or a card (with or without money in it) can speak volumes to the man God has called to shepherd His people.
So, have you shown your Pastor any appreciation today?
